Problems that occur in the abdomen are a reflection of the major organ
systems that occur there. They include the intestinal tract, the liver,
the stomach, the gall bladder, and the urinary bladder.
Diseases that affect the major blood vessels that pass through the abdomen
as well as problems with the spine and spinal cord can also produce symptoms
in the abdomen.
Adjacent structures, including the heart, lungs and organs of the urinary
tract may also produce signs and symptoms that are identified with the
abdomen.
Potentially life threatening conditions such as peritonitis, abdominal
bleeding, bleeding ulcers, dissections of the aorta, aortic aneurysms
and bowel obstructions must be rapidly identified.
Other conditions that may be associated with abdomen include weight
loss, IBS, gastric bypass, colon cancer, indigestion, diarrhea, diabetes,
liposuction, hepatitis, lymphoma and prostate disease.
