Symptoms of ADJUSTMENT DISORDERS
Adjustment disorders always have an identifiable stressor, which can be positive or negative. Examples include marriage, divorce or the loss of a job. The behavior changes occur within 3 months of the incident and disappear within 6 months. Severe depression, anxiety and personality disorder are not present. Symptoms vary and are usually more severe in adolescents and elderly and include irritability, fear, rage, guilt, shame, sleep problems, restlessness, fatigue and loss of concentration. Acting as if the stressful event never happened (denial) often occurs.
