Nodular fasciitis describes the condition where a localized area of fat herniates through the deep fascia of the leg, in the region of the buttock. These are benign disorders which produce unilateral or bilateral buttock pain.

Nodular fasciitis is caused by a local herniation of fat through the deep fascia of the skin. They may also represent the development of a lipoma.

Signs and Symptoms of Nodular Fasciitis

Symptoms of nodular fasciitis include pain in the upper buttock of one or both legs. There may be associated tenderness. A firm, soft nodule may be felt in the buttock underneath the skin.
