Dacryocystitis is an inflammation of the lacrimal drainage system. The lacrimal system provides the tearing of the eye. Dacryocystitis most commonly occurs when the lacrimal system becomes blocked or obstructed.

Dacryocystitis occurs from infection or inflammation of the lacrimal system. When the system becomes obstruction, secondary infection may occur.

Signs and Symptoms of Dacryocystitis

The eye appears red, and there is frequent tearing when people suffer from Dacryocystitis. The lacrimal sack, which sits in the inner lid, is tender and pressure on it may produce pus from the eyelid.
