Viral infections often produce joint pain either by direct infection of the joints or through immunological reactions that involves the joints. Many viruses can lead to these disorders. The symptoms may be transient or may last for months or years.
Causes of Arthritis, Viral
The causes of viral arthritis is two fold. Arthralgias, which may migrate from joint to joint, are often the result in immunological reactions. Localized joint swelling, tenderness and pain may be caused from direct infection of the joint.
Signs and Symptoms of Arthritis, Viral
In addition to joint pains, there is often a rash accompanying viral arthritis. Fever is also common. There may be only joint pain, or tender swollen joints may occur. Painful muscles may also occur. In hepatitis B, jaundice usually occurs a couple weeks after the onset of joint pain.
