Insulin shock is also known as insulin reaction or hypoglycemia. Insulin reactions are most common several hours after eating. They may also be precipitated by exercise. They are a reflection of inadequate amounts of glucose in the blood stream caused by excessive insulin.

The cause of insulin shock is inadequate levels of glucose in the blood stream. This is usually caused by excessive amounts of insulin. The relative levels of insulin can be affected by exercise. There may be an inadvertent overdose of insulin. Tumors of the pancreas are rare causes of excessive amounts of insulin.

Signs and Symptoms of Insulin Shock

Nervousness and confusion are common. The skin appears cold and moist, there may be excessive sweating. The person may be excessively hungry. Seizures may occur and decreased levels of consciousness and coma may occur.
