Injuries to the renal artery may occur after injury to the abdomen or flank. Also, people with heart disease that may produce blood clots in the heart, may embolize a portion of the clot to the renal artery. There, it can block the arterial flow to the kidney.

Signs and Symptoms of Renal Artery Thrombosis

Rapid onset of pain in the low back and flank region commonly occur with occlusion of the renal artery. Hematuria, or blood in the urine, rapidly occurs.
