Phimosis is a condition that occurs in uncircumcised men. Here, the opening of the foreskin is too small. The foreskin, therefore, cannot be retracted over the head of the penis. Since it may then be difficult to have good hygiene of the penis, infections may develop. In extreme conditions, there may be problems with urinating.
Causes of Phimosis
Phimosis ma be present at birth. The cause of this condition is unknown. In adolescents and adults, infections involving the foreskin can lead to scarring which then produces phimosis.
Signs and Symptoms of Phimosis
Gradual ballooning of the foreskin during urination occurs. During erection, there is pain at the head of the penis tries to penetrate the narrowed foreskin. Poor hygiene can lead to infections that produce red, swollen foreskin and well as urinary tract infections with painful, frequent urination.
