Dyspepsia describes a condition of upper abdominal pain not associated with a structural abnormality. The disorder is more common in men and usually occurs in adults. Stress, smoking, diet, and obesity are risk factors.
Causes of Dyspepsia
No specific etiology is known. Certain agents, such as stress, obesity, smoking, and poor diet seem to aggravate the condition.
Signs and Symptoms of Dyspepsia
The symptoms include upper abdominal pain. The pain is often worse when eating. Nausea may occur and tends to be more prominent in the morning. These symptoms may reoccur several times a week and last for months at a time.
