Uremia is seen with end stage kidney disease. It occurs when renal function is reduced to less than 10% of normal. the kidneys cannot adequately remove waste materials and excess water from the body. The most common cause is long standing diabetes.

The most common cause of uremia is end stage kidney disease from diabetes. Chronic infection may also lead to this disorder.

Signs and Symptoms of Uremia

Generalized weakness is seen with uremia. There is decreased urine output. Itchy skin occurs. Headache, confusion and seizures may occur. Nausea and vomiting are common.
