Infection that eventually spreads to the fallopian tube and ovary can lead to the development of an abscess.

Signs and Symptoms of Tuboovarian Abscess

A mass may be felt in the lower abdomen, usually on one side. Pain in the lower abdomen occurs. About half of the people who develop tuboovarian abscess will have fever and chills. If the abscess ruptures, generalized abdominal pain may develop along with abdominal distension. Shock and rapid heart rate may develop under these conditions.
