A small number of people who develop epididymitis or orchitis will have persistent fever and scrotal pain and swelling. About 5% of these patients will go on to develop an abscess of the testicle.

Causes of Testicular Abscess

The cause of testicular abscess is usually an underlying epididymitis or orchitis. Non-bacterial abscesses may also form including that related to tuberculosis, leprosy, syphilis, sarcoidosis among others.

Signs and Symptoms of Testicular Abscess

Local pain and swelling of the testicle occurs. This seems to progress, rather than improve. An enlarging mass in the scrotum may occur. Painful, tender lymph nodes may develop in the groin.
