The growth of hair is cyclical. There are three phases to this growth cycle. They include: growing stage or anagen, involuting stage or catagen and resting stage or telogen. Human hair from the scalp has a typical anagen stage that lasts from two to five years. Catogen usually lasts only a few days and telogen may last up to several months. Certain disorders will lead to the premature arrest of the anagen stage, the hair will stop growing.

Causes of Anagen Arrest

Anagen arrest is most commonly caused by toxins that interfere with hair growth. These include radiation exposure of the scalp as well as exposure to chemotherapeutic drugs.
