In this form of episodic muscular weakness, the muscles of the trunk, shoulders, and hips are the ones most affected. It is often associated with cancer; the most common one being oat cell carcinoma of the lung. The course of this disorder is usually progressive to some degree. Males are affected more often than females.

Some factor released by certain tumors seem to interfere with the release of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter necessary for muscle contraction to occur.

Signs and Symptoms of Eaton Lambert Syndrome

Weakness is noted when trying to arise from sitting. Later, climbing stairs, walking, and using the shoulder muscles are difficult. Less frequently, double vision and difficulty swallowing or talking occurs.
