Tinea cruris is also known as jock itch. It is an infection of the skin in the groin with one of several forms of fungus. It is more common in men than in women, and is contagious from person to person.

Tinea cruris is due to an infection by mold-like fungi called dermatophytes They are transmitted from contact with infected surfaces, such as towels or benches.

Signs and Symptoms of Tinea Cruris

Tinea cruris produces scaling patches on the skin of the groin, thighs and buttocks. the patches usually have well-defined edges. Small, pus-filled blisters may appear. Itching is common in the involved areas. Pain occurs when bacteria secondarily infect the damaged tissue.
