Roseola is a common, contagious childhood disease. It is varcharacterized by high fever and skin rash. It occurs in infants and young children (ages 1 to 3 years).
Causes of Roseola Infantum
Roseola is caused by the herpes virus (type 6), and has a 5 to 15 day incubation period.
Signs and Symptoms of Roseola Infantum
Symptoms of Roseola include: fever, often high, for several days to 1 week, irritability, drowsiness, flat, and reddish skin rash after 3 or 4 days of high fever. The disease is self-limited. The symptoms disappear when the rash appears.
