Actinic keratosis develops in a small area of sun-damaged skin. These lesions are precancerous, and involve skin of the exposed areas. The most commonly affect areas include the scalp, face, ears, lips, arms and hands.
Causes of Keratosis, Actinic
Actinic keratosis occurs from prolonged exposure to the sun’s radiation or excessive ultraviolet rays. It may develop years after the person’s exposure.
Signs and Symptoms of Keratosis, Actinic
Actinic keratosis produce brownish or reddish scaly patches on exposed areas of skin. They may gradually enlarge in size. The patches are painless.
