The endometrium forms the inner lining of the uterus. An excessive growth of tissue in the endometrium occurs in endometrial hyperplasia. This is not a cancerous condition. Some hyperplasia, although reversible, are considered pre-malignant. The different types of hyperplasia (simple, complex, adenomatous and atypical) relate to their potential to form cancerous lesions.
