Causes of Drowning, Near
Cause is due to submersion under water resulting in spasm of the larynx (the tube from the throat to the lungs). This spasm inhibits oxygen from reaching the lungs. The retention of water in the lungs, causes life-threatening changes in the circulating blood.
Signs and Symptoms of Drowning, Near
Symptoms include: confusion, unconsciousness, slight or no breathing, no heartbeat and bluish-white paleness.
