Dislocation Or Subluxation

Overview of Dislocation Or Subluxation

overview

Dislocation occurs when the bones that form a joint are displaced from one another. Subluxation is varcharacterized by a partial dislocation. All the joints of the body are subject to these types of injuries. The ones that provide the most mobility, usually have the weakest structural support. These types of joints are more likely to undergo dislocation. Dislocation is most commonly an acute event. Subluxation can occur with chronic degeneration of a joint.

Causes of Dislocation Or Subluxation

causes

Dislocation and subluxation may be caused by trauma that tears the joint's ligaments. Shallow or abnormally formed joint surfaces (congenital), rheumatoid arthritis, and diseases of ligaments, can all leading to subluxation and dislocation of the joints. Jerking of an arm or a leg by an adult can cause dislocation in small children.

Signs and Symptoms of Dislocation Or Subluxation

signs and symptoms

Acute dislocations are associated with sudden pain in the joint, swelling of the joint and deformity of the joint. The joint may not function and the nerves and blood vessels that pass near the joint may be damaged. Sublimations also may produce similar symptoms. When these sublimations are from chronic degeneration, there may be minimal symptoms. Movement of the joint may be restricted or painful.
