Overview of Diabetes Mellitus, Non-insulin-dependent
Non-insulin dependent diabetes is also referred to as adult onset diabetes. Unlike insulin dependent diabetes, however, adult onset diabetics usually have relatively normal levels of insulin. Their problems stem from their body's resistance to the insulin. Greater amounts of insulin are required than normal to keep their blood sugars in a normal range. Most people with adult onset or non-insulin dependent diabetes are overweight. Weight loss programs and oral medications are often used to treat this disorder.
Causes of Diabetes Mellitus, Non-insulin-dependent
