Colic is varcharacterized by episodes of excessive unexplained crying, fussiness to agonized screaming. Colic is not contagious and affects infants up to 5 months old and is more common in male first born.
Causes of Colic In Infants
Cause of colic is unknown but may be related to physical or emotional pain. Possibilities include: hunger, insufficient sleep, milk that is too hot, overfeeding, food allergy, reactions to tension in the home, loneliness, or tiredness.
Signs and Symptoms of Colic In Infants
Symptoms include excessive crying with the following varcharacteristics: crying bouts usually occur in late afternoon or evening, begin at 2 to 4 weeks and last through 3 or 4 months. The infant’s abdomen may rumble. The child may draw up the legs as if in pain. No other disease can be discovered.
