Cervical erosion is a non- cancerous condition where abnormal tissue growth occurs. The abnormal tissue involves the lining of the uterus. The tissue may spread to cover the tip of the cervix. The consequence of this abnormally placed tissue is usually inflammation or infection.

Causes of Cervical Erosion

Cause is not known, but may be due to pregnancy, childbirth or the use of oral contraceptives. It may also develop as a congenital variation.

Signs and Symptoms of Cervical Erosion

Cervical erosion will frequently not produce any symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they include increased vaginal discharge and abnormal vaginal bleeding.
