Mucormycosis are unusual fungal infections that principally occur in people with serious underlying medical disorders. Mucormycosis frequently originates in sinuses or nasal cavity. It primarily affects people with poorly controlled Diabetes or those that are on immunosuppressive drugs for organ transplantation. Mucormycosis of the gastrointestinal tract occurs from several diseases.

Mucormycosis is caused by fungal infections that usually occur in people that have weakened immune systems.

Signs and Symptoms of Mucormycosis

Mucormycosis of the nasal cavity and sinuses usually is associated with fever. There is pain in the area affected. As the disease spreads, it can produce double vision, red eye, bulging eye and decreased vision or blindness. If the infection spreads into the brain, drowsiness and coma may occur. Involvement of the lungs produces fever, chest pain and cough.
