While both men and women are affected by these changes, the varitions are more profound with women. Advancing age is sometimes associated with chronic rhinorrhea related to dysfunction of the mucosa.

Senile rhinorrhea is produced by changes in the structure and function of the cells that make up the mucosa of the nasal cavity. In addition, chronic infections, chronic allergies and skull defects may lead to chronic drainage from the nose.

Signs and Symptoms of Senile Rhinorrhea

Chronic nasal drainage occurs. Patients may complain of postnasal drip. Coughing, snorting or hoarness may occur.
