Causes of Onchocerciasis

Onchocerciasis is caused by filarial nematode. Deposition of the infected larvae on the skin is caused by infected flies.

Signs and Symptoms of Onchocerciasis

Itching and rash are the most common symptoms of onchocerciasis. There may be premature wrinkling of the skin. In addition, there is scaling of the skin, increased pigment in areas of the skin and nodules underneath the skin. Swollen lymph nodes and loss of vision occurs.
