Nasal trauma from intranasal foreign bodies can occur with animate as well as inanimate objects. Parasites may enter the nasal cavity and lead to injury. They are more frequently found in those living in poverty and in people with chronic illnesses. Children are more likely to place inanimate objects into their nose. These object generally cause unilateral nasal obstruction and local injury to the cartilage, bone or lining of the nasal cavity.

Nasal trauma from foreign bodies are caused by parasitic infection or direct mechanical trauma.

Signs and Symptoms of Nasal Foreign Body

Living objects which become lodged in the nasal cavity will frequently produce purulent nasal discharge. Elevated temperatures will frequently occur. The nasal cavity appear red and tender. Inanimate objects also produce nasal obstruction. Trauma induced by them may produce bloody nasal discharge.
