Filariasis are worms that affect over 100 million people, worldwide. The disease develops very slowly. People who have recent exposure and contract the disease become much more symptomatic than those who are chronically exposed to the disorder throughout life.

Infection is transmitted by certain strains of mosquitoes and worms.

Signs and Symptoms of Filariasis

In males, there is often swelling and tenderness of the testicles. There may be fluid collection in this area. Fever and chills develop. Swelling of regional lymph nodes occurs. These enlarged lumps are usually red and tender. Swelling of an extremity may occur. There is often increased pigment of the skin, thickening of the skin, and rash.
