Dubin-Johnson syndrome is a rare disorder also called chronic idiopathic jaundice. This is an inherited disorder resulting in elevated levels of bilirubin.

There is a defect in the excretion of bilirubin by the biliary system. It is usually a genetically inherited disorder.

Signs and Symptoms of Dubin-johnson Syndrome

The symptoms which occur in this syndrome are not specific. At times, there is abdominal discomfort. Jaundice - yellowing of the skin and eyes - occurs. The jaundice is often worse when there is an unrelated illness present. In addition, oral contraceptives or pregnancy may exaggerate the jaundice.
