The symptoms of familial Mediterranean fever usually begin in childhood or early adolescence. Typical episodes usually last 24-48 hours, but may last up to 7-10 days. The most common frequency for recurrence is every 2-4 weeks. However, this can vary widely. Abdominal pain may begin in any area, but the whole abdomen is frequently involved. Fever, nausea and vomiting are common complaints. Associated symptoms include chest discomfort, increased pain with breathing, joint pains and red, painful patches of the skin.
