Overview of Nasoductal Cyst

The nasolacrimal duct drains tears and other secretions of the eyes into the nasal cavity. The duct begins as a small opening at the inner, lower eyelid. The pass towards the nose and then down into the nasal cavity where they drain. Injuries or infections of the duct may lead to narrowing. Cysts may develop from the duct that gradually enlarge. The can produce small lumps in the course of the nasolacrimal duct. They may interfere with drainage of the tears,

Causes of Nasoductal Cyst

These cysts are caused by inflammatory changes, damage or narrowing of the nasolacrimal duct.

Signs and Symptoms of Nasoductal Cyst

Nasolacrimal cysts develop along the course of the duct. The produce small lumps under the inner part of the lower lid. These lumps may be painful and may become secondarily infected. Infection will produce redness, heat and increased swelling. The eye may become red under these conditions. Interference with the normal drainage of tears can result in fluid collecting in the eye or draining onto the face.
