This disorder involves the extremities, more common the feet. It affects men more than women and is most common in middle age. It is varcharacterized by burning pain and redness in the extremities. It is frequently precipitated when the extremity is exposed to a warm environment or is dependent and is relieved by cool environment or elevation of the involved extremity..

Causes of Erythromelalgia

This disorder may be related to other diseases, such as hypertension, drug reaction, polycythemia or thrombocytosis. It may also occur in myeloproliferative disorders, such as leukemia. It may also occur without any associated disease. The underlying cause of the disorder is not known.

Signs and Symptoms of Erythromelalgia

Burning in the extremity occurs often in response to a warm environment. A dependent position of the extremity may also precipitate it. The involved area turns red.
