Throat Cancer

Overview of Throat Cancer

overview

Cancers of the neck are often related to the linings of the passages of the mouth and throat. The disorders that arise include oral cancer, nosopharyngeal cancer and laryngeal cancer. In North America and Europe, the tumors that arise are usually squamous cell carcinomas of the oral cavity, the oropharynx and the larynx. Nasopharyngeal cancer is more common in the far East and in the Mediterranean. Alcohol and tobacco use are risk factors. Some viral disorders may predispose people to throat cancer.

Causes of Throat Cancer

causes

Tumors of the throat are the result of some mutation in the cell. Chronic injury, chronic alcohol use and smoking may increase the chance of developing throat cancer. Exposure to certain viruses and previous exposure to radiation are risk factors.
