Follicle cyst of the ovary with intraperitoneal bleeding is also referred to as Mittelscherz disease. Here, follicle cysts which routinely develop in the ovary, may rupture and bleed into the abdominal cavity. Bleeding may be significant and lead to the signs and symptoms of shock. The onset of this disorder usually occurs during the middle of the menstrual cycle. There may have been similar episodes of discomfort, either in the right or left lower abdomen, in the past.
Causes of Ruptured Follicle Cyst With Bleeding
This disorder is caused when an follicle cyst of the ovary ruptures and bleeds into the abdominal cavity.
Signs and Symptoms of Ruptured Follicle Cyst With Bleeding
The follicle cysts themselves tend to produce lower abdominal pain, usually on one side or another. The pain usually develop during mid-cycle. When rupture of the cyst occurs and intra-abdominal bleeding develops, there is diffuse abdominal pain and tenderness. The abdomen may become distended. Anemia ensues along with hypotension. The person may develop shortness of breath, rapid heart rate, fatigue and appear pale.
