Chondromalacia patella is also referred to as patella femoral pain syndrome. These terms refer to a disorder of the knee cartilage, underneath the knee cap. Here, the cartilage is damaged. It occurs most commonly in teenagers and young adults. It often occurs only in one knee and may be precipitated by strenuous exercise.

The cause of the syndrome is not completely understood. It may be precipitated by strenuous exercise.

Signs and Symptoms of Chondromalacia Patella

Symptoms include pain in the knee, particularly when it is bent and straightened. Stiffness after prolonged sitting occurs. Often, cracking noise during knee movement are heard.
