Fractures of the humerus result in swelling and pain in the upper arm. There is marked inability to move the arm. Attempts to use the lower portion of the arm are limited due to instability of the upper arm. Injuries to the nerves may occur. Radial nerve injuries can produce wrist drop. Damage to the arteries can lead to a pale cool arm and hand.
