Signs and Symptoms of Mole

signs and symptoms

Most frequently moles are flat or elevated areas of skin which have increased pigmentation. They vary in color from light brown to dark brown. Generally, they range in size but are usually less than 1 inch in diameter. Dysplastic nevi may run in families. They are somewhat larger than the typical mole and may have uneven distribution of the pigment. These dysplastic nevi are somewhat more likely to form cancerous lesions. Blue nevi have a bluish or black color. They usually occur on the face, arms, legs and buttocks. They should be distinguished from melanomas. If there is a change in the size, shape or growth of a mole it should be evaluated by a physician.
