Rhinophyma is a form of Rosacea. In Rosacea, a rash develops in the middle of the face. Middle aged women are the most commonly affected. In this form of the disorder, elderly men are primarily affected. The skin of the nose becomes thickened and discolored.

The cause of Rhinophyma and of Rosacea is unknown.

Signs and Symptoms of Rhinophyma

In Rhinophyma, the skin of the nose is thickened, reddened and swollen. It may be associated with similar changes in the skin over the face. Often there is burning or itching associated with it. Occasionally, red. irritated eyes occur.
