FRED A. WEAVER, M.D.
Biographical Sketch

Fred Arthur Weaver, M.D. holds the title of Professor of Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC). Dr. Weaver's education includes Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Southern California. He received his general surgery and vascular surgery training at Vanderbilt University. While at Vanderbilt, he also completed a one-year surgical research fellowship in transplantation. He has been on the faculty in Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine since 1986, rising to the rank of Professor of Surgery in 1999. He is the Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and the Medical Director of the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratories at the USC University Hospital and Chapman Medical Center in Orange County.

Dr. Weaver is an accomplished educator. He has been the Program Director in Surgery for the USC General Surgical Residency Program and is presently the Program Director for the USC Vascular Surgery Residency. He is the originator and director of the annual Max R. Gaspar, M.D. Symposium, which is a one-day conference highlighting advances in the treatment of vascular disease. He has also received, in 1990 and 1993, the C.J. Berne Award for Teaching Excellence from the USC surgical residents.

Dr. Weaver's scholarly activities have resulted in ninety-three journal publications and twenty-six textbook chapters, most of which concern vascular disease and its surgical management. He has presented at numerous local, regional and national scientific meetings and is frequently a guest speaker at symposia on vascular disorders. His major research interest concerns the diagnosis and endovascular management of occlusive arterial disease; in particular, the diseases of the renal arteries, which lead to hypertension and renal failure. He has an active surgical practice focused on occlusive and aneurismal disease of the aorta and major aortic branches.
